Thanks to everyone for helping out! I got the first response within
2 hours of posting the message -- this bboard is INTENSE!! Just in case
you're wondering, the simplest method for searching a VMS directory tree
for a given file is
dir [root_directory_name...]file_name.extension
where, of course, the global '*' is allowed in the file spec.
