Here is a clip from and ftp session to quake.think.com and a rundown to get to the wais directory. The .sit.hqx files are for Machintosh ( I have not tried them yet. ) the .tar.Z files will work on a Sparcstation. ( I have been using Xvision running under Windows v3.0 to hook up to nic.funet.fi where the Xwaistation is installed and running Xwais from there) There are two sources relating to biology on the connection machine at the momment... NIH-guides and part of the Genbank database... the annotated part of the database is present... the sequences seem to be missing. Connect time is from 9AM to 9 PM EST On NIC I processed the LIMB database to be a WAIS source, and there seems to be unique opportunities for doing things with TOC's from BioSci Software catalogues, Prosite, SEQANLREF, etc. If you have chucks of text and want to sift through it then WAIS would seem to be an ideal solution.
