[net.auto] reply to cruise control

dave@ihu1f.UUCP (07/13/83)

I have installed two DANA cruise control units.
The first worked great. It was a 1976 model ( black control box
with two magnets on the drive shaft ). The second was a 1983 model
( yellow control box with one magnet on the drive shaft ).
The centering adjustment is not quit as linear on this unit as the first.
If I push the set button at 30 mph, it will hold ata 31 mph,
set at 45 goes 45, and set at 60 drops to 59 mph.
I did not have this problem in 1976, then what you set is what you got.
I have little experience with factory units, but the one is saw
on an Olds would not set below 45 mph. The DANA units
will set and maintain down to about 25 mph. This is very useful on long
city streets with hidding cops. ( cheaper than a fuzz buster ).

My guess from the instructions, is the design change was made to
accommodate front wheel drive cars. ( then you use two magnets. )
It still beats not having cruise, but is just a little annoying to me.

Installation is not easy, but if you are a handy person, you should not
have any trouble. It will take a whole day and you need a 1 inch chassy
punch to do the job right. To adjust the unit takes two people, one driving
and one turning the adjustments.

Watch for a sale, you can get it for about
$69.00 from Pennys or Sears. I wonder (worry) how well they install them,
for $99.00 sale price?
