Reply to 55 MPH BLUES; I have just returned from my vacation. I traveled by motorcycle with my wife as a passenger. Another couple traveled with us, each drove their own motorcycle. The speed averaged less than 55mph and peaked about 62mph. The area traveled was through Vermont (Green Mtns), New Hampshire (White Mtns.) and New York (Adirondack Mtns.). We also traveled along interstate highways. The total distance that we drove was about 2100 miles. The extra time that we spent on the road due to the slower speeds was more than rewarded by seeing more of the scenery than other people can when they drive at high speed from one place to another. When we arrived at the places we wanted to stay, we were not tired and actually were relaxed enough to go out and have a good time that night. Most of the people that we talked to at the motels were to tired or they suffered from tension headaches to do anything other than to lie down and rest after driving at or above the speed limits. Yes, I did ask them how far they traveled that day. Some answers indicated speeds above 60mph. Driving at 55mph or less not only saves lives but can also help keep ones sanity. For those people that think driving wastes their time and energy, I would recommend using another form of transportation. Rested and relaxed BTM

#R:hound:-20100:tekcad:13200014:000:678 tekcad!louisp Jul 13 08:24:00 1983 I don't suppose you talked to anyone that was tensed and irritable because he/she wasted away a good bit of time putting along at 55 on a route that was of no scenic interest, but was instead actually trying to get from point "A" to point "B" in an expeditious manner. If you wan't to enjoy scenery, try touring on a bicycle. There isn't the constant din and vibration of an engine running all the time. POINT: you can always find subjects/statistics to support any point of view; presenting them is fine; imposing them in intolerable!
