[alt.activism] Gun Control Poll

thk@uxrd15.UUCP (Tom Kiermaier) (01/17/90)

This Sundays Parade magazine feature article deals with RKBA. The
article was written by Warren E Burger, chief justice of the supreme
court 1969 to 1986. Burger briefly traces the history and intent
of the 2nd amendment. Burger defends RKBA as an individual right
with certain reservations. Basically, he wants some form of
registration and would like to ban guns like "machine pistols."
Unfortunately, he no longer believes in the original intent of
RKBA. Only guns suitable for "sporting purposes" are acceptable
to him. BTW: Burger has owned guns most of his life and used
them for "sporting purposes" (hunting.) Self-defense is also
on Burgers list of acceptable uses of firearms. Militia type
weapons seem to be on his sh*t list. Anyhow, the purpose
of this posting is to let publicize the poll that Parade is
running on gun control. The results of the poll will be
distributed to members of congress. Most likely the distribution
will come days before the Senate votes on numerous anti-gun
bill in February. You can put in your own 2 cents by calling
1-900-342-1001. The call costs 75 cents. Below are the questions.

  1) Should a gun buyer be required to fill out an application?

  2) Should a 10 day wait be required for for a gun license?

  3) Should the transfer of firearms follow the same procedure
     as motor vehicles?

  4) Should a "ballistic fingerprint" be filed on every weapon?

Calls will be accepted from 8AM Sunday Jan 14 Thru midnight
Jan 17.
