[alt.activism] FAIR report: "Dearth of Women in the Media"

"Talking politics on the radio is a mostly male prerogative," write
Toni L. Kamins in this month's _Extra!_, the publication of Fairness
and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR). Of the National Association of Radio
Talkshow Hosts' 900-plus members, only 50 are women, Kamins adds. And
most of those women offer advice -- psychological, financial or
consumer -- rather than commentary on current events.

The entire March/April issue of _Extra!_ is devoted to the dearth of
women in the media, externally and internally. Additional articles
include "All the Women Fit to Print: A Day in the Life of the New York
Times"; "Abortion Coverage Leaves Women Out of the Picture" ; "Lesbian
Invisibility in the Media" ; "Gender Bias in Televised Sports" ; and
"Women Media Workers: No Room at the Top."
