In his book "The Complete Venus Equalateral" by George O. Smith (the incomplete "Venus Equalateral" was missing one short story that is available in Doubledays "Treasury of Science Fiction"... Well this book has a wonderful discussion of the effects on society of a device that can make a copy of any material object. The stories were written before the invention of the transistor (!!!) but given a few of the premises, its a reasonable projection.
