My friend that works in Corvette division read me an excuse as long as my arm as to why the vette was recalled. They "say" that the supplier of the bolts incorrectly sorted that bolts at THEIR warehouse. The end result was a few shipments of bolts to the wrong tolerances sent to the corvette factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky. There is the official GM excuse. Take it or leave it. The press show for the new Corvette manual was last Friday (July 15). My buddy drove with Don Sherman and Patrick Bedard of C&D. Bedard won the Corvette slalom and obstacle course competition. (I forget what the course was called). The new manual Vette has 7 speeds. First, second and second with overdrive, third and third with overdrive, and fourth and fourth with overdrive. I believe the 0 to 60 time picks up a bit and the 0 to top speed time has increased but I don't know if it beats the new Ferrari 308. Last Saturday I got to drive a new Corvette. Talk about excitement in driving! The experience does not compare with anything I've had before behind the wheel of a car. My 0 to 60 timing was 6.5 seconds. I got the car from 60 to 100 in what seemed like no time at all. At 70 mph the car was only turning 2200 RPM. The star wars instrument panel I thought I would hate was actually very nice. Avg. mpg is displayed, instantaneous mgp, you name it, its got it. With all the hotrodding around myself and my friends did in the Vette, we still had an average mpg of 19. Not bad. The car handles like a dream and accelerates like a demon. The one I drove was black (per my request). The Vette was made to be black like a Porsche is made to be red. If you want to drive the truly "ultimate driving machine", drive a new Vette. You'll love it. Chris Donahue ihuxq!cwd
