I was reading the past few messages, and was just wondering what time frame the following inventions are expected to take place in...? Computer assisted brain functions? (Vision, etc.?) Computer acceleration of brain functions?? Brains operating at 1e6 times faster than normal?? Normal brain functions are understood at a very elemntary level at best... How is current computer technology expected to interface with brains, when we aren't even sure of how the brain works? I mean, it's hard enough making prosthetic devices, that work properly, (Prosthetic devices that attach to neuron outputs to the missing whatever...) Is most of the stuff just speculation about the far future, or is there actually any research going on here? Don't take this is sarcasm, or anything... Just scientific skepticism... If there is any research actually being conducted in these areas, I'd definitely like to hear about it... Thanks... [This is virtually all speculation. I wouldn't imagine you'd see any of this stuff happen before 2050. I could be mistaken if a widely-based nanotechnology speeds up the progress of research before then--it will speed up, of course, but it's got a long way to go. --JoSH]
