The February 7 issue of Nature had a short article on nanotechnology on page 449: "Miti aims at small research." The text of the article said there is "...blossoming interest in Japan in nanotechnology, a field which with the backing of the powerful Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) seems destined to become Japan's next priority target for industrial research." "MITI sees nanotechnology as opening the way to development of the next generation of gigabit electronic devices early in the next century."
