[sci.nanotech] Piezoelectrics...how thin can they be made?

stvl@bhpcpd.kembla.oz.au (Steve Lechowicz) (04/10/91)

I am after some information on the limitations of piezoelectric
ceramics. Specifically, is there a lower limit to the thickness
of a piezo-sliver (in terms of what is practical to manufacture).
Thanks in advance.

Steve.

[The smallest structures I know of that are fabricated for use as piezo
devices are the stalks in Nova Sensor's micro accelerometers, which are
on the order of microns. These are silicon rather than ceramic, though.
I have a suspicion the real answer is, "How much do you want to pay?"
