[net.auto] BMW reliability

    Another testimonial for BMW...

I've put the last 21k miles on my '79 320i, bringing
it to 87k.

At this point it uses only marginally more oil then it
was originally designed to. The front engine seal is starting
to weep just a little, which is really more an annoyance
of little drips of oil on the garage floor, than a real
problem. While a shop will charge quite a price to fix
this, it's about a $1.50 part, and I intend to do the work
myself.

The nicest thing I can say about this car is that at
nearly 90,000 miles, it's still very tight. It doesn't
rattle the way one would expect a car of its age to. The
main odometer counts six digits, but without 1/10's, which
are on the trip odometer. Several people after a ride have
assumed the milage was 8700.0 miles not 87,000. What more
can I say?
