I am not a regular long time reader of this news group so if this system has already been discussed I apologize. I am posting this for a fellow PhD student - a civil engineering type. He is considering purchasing a shell called Rulemaster 2/PC sold by Radion to use for the expert system part of his dissertation project. He would be interested in feedback from anyone who has used this product and also a telephone number for Radion. If there is sufficient interest I will summarize the feedback and post it here. Please send me email any of comments you might have. Tom, I now a bit about the Rulemaster shell, at least in its earlier form. The shell rests primarily on the "inductive" method -- using examples to generate production rules -- although it also allows the construction of rules directly (without going through the induction process). One of its major benefits is that it can produce C code which can be embedded in other programs. Earlier versions of the lst Class product provided a better interface to the "inductive" approach than the interface provided by Rulemaster. However, 1st Class now costs a lot more than Rulemaster.
