Can you help us ? We have developed a knowledge-based system called SEPT at Electricite de France to give an accurate diagnosis on protection devices of the French electrical power systems. SEPT is now operational in a big 400 KV substation near Paris since february 1990. We have now to implement SEPT in all other French 400KV substations. That's the beginning of our problems: each substation presents particula- rities and new devices are frequently integrated in substations. Thus, we have planned to develop a tool for knowledge acquisition and knowledge formalization in order to easily configure the knowledge which is needed for each substation, i.e. 'deep' knowledge on new devices and 'shallow' knowledge from operators. The realization of this "knowledge configurator" is the subject of a PhD Thesis. Other potentialities concern explanation and training. We are interested by any information you can have on similar projects in the field of power systems as well as in the field of diagnostic knowledge-based systems where a model is used. We are also interested to exchange viewpoints and ideas and, eventually, to establish a collaboration.
