I am looking for a public domain backward chaining inference engine that can be called from C or C++. C or C++ Source preferred. Please reply by email.

The following basically represents the results of my posting (some time ago) about pd expert system shells. I have not tried out any of the shells listed (having been otherwise occupied) so I can't offer any opinions on them. I'm sure many would appreciate comments from anyone out 'there' who has used any of the packages. Thanks again to the respondants! Cam ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Available via anonymous ftp in volume 3 of comp.sources.unix: csu.index:trc/part[0-8] TRC - expert system building tool ------------------------------------------------------------------------- While not exactly an expert system shell, I have a package called BELIEF which manipulates probabilistic and belief function graphical models. In a loose sense it is an expert system shell, as it solves many of the same problems. On the other hand, the user interface is still relatively primitive (I'm working out of a statistics, not CS department and get credit for theoretical results and not slick interfaces). It is availble via anonymous ftp from hustat.harvard.edu and belgica.stat.washington.edu. It is available via mail from me. Russell Almond U.Washington, Department of Statistics almond@stat.washington.edu (206) 543-4302 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- My name is Roberto Bozac, and I have information regarding a free expert system for the PC. I found it through FTP at 'garbo.uwasa.fi' (the University of Vassa, Finland). This server is loaded with PC/MAC/etc. software (shareware, freeware, demos). The expert system is called Experto (written in Italy, but in English!). It is located in the direectory /pc/science. The files are experto.zoo (235K) and xprto.zip (3K). In order to decompress them, you will need PKZIP and ZOO. These archivers are located in /pc/arcers under the names pkz110eu.exe (big) and zoo201.exe (88K). These are self-extracting archiver packages. A list of currently avaiable pc files on the server can be found in the /pc directory (file name INDEX). You should really check out 'garbo.uwasa.fi', they have lots of interesting files for all types of machines. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry I can not help you here much except to suggest you try contacting the University of Georgia (USA) and their COSMOS system to see if any public domain AI shells are listed there. However, should you get together a list of these I would very much like a copy, or a posting to the net. By the way, the monitor of comp.ai.shell did send me a list of shell reviews - the monitor's query about shells had an apparently very low response.
