STATISTICS UPDATE FROM THE JANUARY 20, 1991 BOSTON SUNDAY GLOBE Each count in the table below is the number of Massachusetts firms whose Boston Sunday Globe help wanted advertisements since 1987 mention the adjacent skill phrase. !-----------------------------------------------------------------------! ! For the above skill phrases, the top count gainers since the previous update are, in declining order: msdos, lan, databases and unix. Of the 110+ skill phrases I currently track, other prominent gainers since last week are technical documentation and customer service. In this issue, I found 87 advertisements containing one or more of the skill phrases I track. 87 is 74% of the 1991 high and is 93% of the high seen in the entire last half of 1990. 21 of the 87 FINDs represent advertisers appearing in my catalog for the first time. This Globe issue contains 3 desirable blinds ads which I did not catalog. The blind ad frequency may grow with the advertiser cost for processing numerous responses to open ads. For comparison purposes, note the following FIND statistics from the 27 Boston Sunday Globe issues during the last half of 1990: average find: 55.1 minimum find: 14 maximum find: 94 This data is from my catalog of 1600+ employers whose help wanted ads for Massachusetts jobs mention particular skill phrases. The phrases include general business functions as well as computer related activities. I compile company identification and skill phrase data by date. This information helps me minimize competition when marketing my database application consulting skills.
