!As to Joel's data base... I have talked with him and in fact encouraged
!him.

i have talked with him and in fact attempted to discourage him from
trying to solicit business by using this network.

!If he is willing -- for a fee -- to sell us that knowledge, which comprises
                     ^^^^^^^^^
!1) an analysis of the kinds of skills that we have compared to the skills
!being sought by companies 2) some useful hints about what to say, when and
!how to send letters to these companies 3) a listing of companies selected
!according to criteria that make sense to me --- what is wrong with that?

hello? "what is wrong with that?" !!!!????
where have you been?

he appears to be using the internet to make money for himself.

this is vaguely if not specifically illegal according to *net charters
and the federal funding cats who fund a lot of this network. imho.

!I have no problem with his broadcasting some tidbits that
!may or may not be of interest as a way of 'advertising' his wares.

others do have a problem with this. i see his actions as
similar those of those who make money by luring unemployed
folks to call 900 and 976 numbers to allegedly find jobs. LOW.

! Joel is reporting real numbers about companies who have paid millions
! of dollars for those ads in the Sunday Boston Globe.

(fyi, a full page ad in the globe help wanted is about $30,000.)

many of the ads are from headhunters, and are lies or duplicates.
many of the ads are from companies OUTSIDE THE BOSTON AREA.

! week's number) employment ads containing the keywords he names, then
! you can call him a liar and make it stick.

nobody called him a liar, kiddo.
misleading, yes. scamming, maybe. lying, not so far.

! On the other hand, you have vented your frustrations by calling him names.

vented my frustrations? bullshit! my personal sitauation
is far from frustrating. i'm trying to stop *other people*
from being misled. no kidding!

! Joel has done us a bigger service than you have.

his is bigger, huh? :)

! If you are in the
! Boston area and trying to find a job, there are many on the net who
! will gladly help you change your jobhunting techniques to ones that
! work better.

that's very nice of them. my techniques work just fine, however.
but not around Boston. no matter how good you are, you will end
up being somewhat hosed by the boston job market. imho.

it's supply and demand. employees and potential employees are
now at a disadvantage around here. in my opinion, Joel Narod is
trying to capitalize ($$$) on this disadvantage. i think this
is a Very Bad Thing, as well as a possible violation of net.charters
and NSF/government funding rules.

! To the rest of you, I apologize for putting this personal communication
! in such a widely distributed forum, but these attempts at character
! assassination should be countered where they have been displayed.

no blanket apology from me, readers. i want you all to be aware
what the job market in boston is really like, regardless of
the misleading stats that Narod posts. remember: SUPPLY AND DEMAND.

however, if you find my writing style to be abrasive or blue meanie-ish,
i do apologize. instead, i hope that some readers get an occasional
chuckle from my postings on this subject, as well as some useful info.

i'm crossposting this to misc.jobs.misc and other worldwide distributions
because i think that those who are outside of boston are more likely
to be misled by Narod's oversimplified statistics. those who are
near Boston already know the score. remember: SUPPLY AND DEMAND.

peace.
