Unlike the temporary slaps that US companies like General Dynamics get when found to have ripped off billions, the ban on Toshiba is written into federal purchasing LAW, and will require an act of Congress to undo. Certainly part of the action was justified from a cold war retributive standpoint for the great loss of our submarine tracking advantage, while part was joyful japan-bashing, and part was protectionism (for our prime US laptop maker. Which is now French!) Does anybody know if this disbarment might end as part of a "peace dividend?" -- Jordan Pollack Assistant Professor CIS Dept/OSU Laboratory for AI Research 2036 Neil Ave Email: pollack@cis.ohio-state.edu Columbus, OH 43210 Fax/Phone: (614) 292-4890
