[net.auto] Imported

dcn@ihuxl.UUCP (08/17/83)

I just got a new issue of CAR, and I thought I would share
the index of their mini-reviews section with you. CAR is
imported from England, so you might not find it at the local
magazine shop. The list is in three parts: interesting,
adequate and boring - perfect categories for sports car
	enthusiasts!

Interesting:
Aston Martin: all models Lotus: all models
	Audi: 5000, Coupe, Quattro Mazda: 626, RX7
BMW: 323i, 733i Mercedes: all models
	Mitsubishi: Starion Morgan: all models
	Ferrari: all models Peugot: 305, 505, 604
Fiat: Strada, X1/9 Porshe: all models
	Honda: Accord Saab: all models
Jaguar: XJ6, XJS Volkswagen: Scirocco, GTI
	Lamborghini: all models Volvo: 760

Adequate:
Alfa Romeo: GTV6 Maserati: all Models
	Audi: 4000 Mazda: GLC
	BMW: 528e, 633i Renault: Fuego
Chevy: Camaro Z28 Rolls-Royce: all models
Mitsubishi: Tredia, Cordia	Subaru: all models
Nissan: Sentra, Stanza Toyota: Tercel, Camry, Celica
Ford: Escort Volkswagen: Rabbit, Jetta, Quantum
Honda: Civic, Prelude Volvo: all models except 760

Boring:
	Buick: Regal, Century
	Cadillac: Fleetwood
	Chevy: Chevette, Celebrity, Caprice Classic
	Dodge: Sapporo
	Toyota: Starlet, Corolla

This is a subset of the list - many other cars available only
in Europe were included in the list. Please excuse some of the
name translations - I'm not familiar enough with the European
models to be accurate. I also refuse to take responsibility for
the opinions of CAR magazine, especially since they rated the
Toyota Celica so low when the Supra is easily a match for the RX7
and Starion. Some of the British cars are also over-rated.
	What do you think?

I read one British magazine (CAR, I think, which had a good/bad/ugly section,
also called boring/good/interesting).
It was my impression that they were biased strongly pro-British and
anti-Japanese.
Also, the reviews were of little comparative value. I don't need them to tell
me that a $50,000 Ferrari accelerates better than a $5,000 Honda Civic.
One characteristic they seemed to find highly desirable in a car was
"character", or what I prefer to call "unreliability/inconvenience".
Hence a standard review would read something like:
Good finish, comfortable ride, excellent economy/reliability, no CHARACTER,
typical Jap.
[I found the use of "Jap" rather offensive]
Disclaimer : This is my opinion only.

P.S. Why am I complaining, they rated the Accord (I have one) well.

I don`T know about the other British cars in the list, but the only
REALLY interesting one there is the Morgan.

TVRs are very interesting cars, even if they weren't on the list.
