I recently bought a Toshiba T1000 for my wife and we got Microsoft Works on a special $49.95 deal with the purchase. The package normally sells just short of $100.00. Apparently this was a replacement for the Boland Kickstart program (list $49.95) which was formerly bundled with the T1000. (Same manufacturer commitment, pricier software). Truthfully, I haven't really given Works a complete tryout, but I did the installation and am my wife's system manager, so to speak. It's quite a package for $100 and seems well designed and easy to use, even on the T1000. The disk switching is not *too* bad, definately workable, given what you gain in portability. I have also had no significant problems running the package with just the standard memory. I was also able to install a cheepo mouse (Genius, $29.95) with a bit of effort, and that works OK. It's not blindingly fast, but it does work reasonably. In the course of the mouse installation, I needed the help of Microsoft tech support, due to the RAM DOS configuration. (MW trys and fails to write on the RAM system disk) They were very helpful, and in fact solved my problem. As a DOS novice who works on UNIX machines all day, I was quite surprised and satisfied. Sorry I don't have more good info. I can report more once I wean my wife from Wordstar and into MW full time. -- John Andrew Berton, Jr. | "Time is an illusion, The Ohio Supercomputer Graphics Project | lunchtime doubly so!" berton@mymosh.osgp.osc.edu | - Ford Prefect
