For those t1000se users out there, I just completed installing a 2400 baud mnp 5 modem from Megahertz. The unit costs $650 cdn, compared to approximately $500 cdn for the standard Toshiba modem. The price is a bit high due to importing into Canada, and the fact it has been on the market for only a few weeks. The model number is ET-324M. The unit is very compact and fits exactly in the modem compartment lid ( I do mean EXACTLY, it clips in place!). You cannot see the circuit board due to the high chip density. It appears to be a very clean design. Instructions were provided for T1200 and T1600 models, but not for T1000SE models. However, the Toshiba manual gave all the necessary information. If I could install the hardware, anyone can! One point, be carefull with the wires connecting the telephone socket to the board. They are very light. They could be broken during installation. The modem comes with procomm software, EasyTalk users guide, and a small installation guide. A procomm manual is provided with the software. I have not installed the software. I use Procomm Plus instead. I have tested the modem out to an IBM mainframe at 1200 and 2400 baud, and to ethernet terminal servers at 1200, 2400 and 2400 mnp 5. Once a few startup problems were solved, it worked without incident. I have it setup as a hayes 2400 baud modem. I am very happy with the product. I just wish it were several hundred dollars cheaper. You do pay for the small size. I am interested in finding out if there is software out there which can send faxes through a normal modem. Might as well put the modem to good use.
