I am currently in the market for a new car. I've more or less decided on the Renault Alliance or perhaps the new Encore. This will be my first experiance with a car this small and I was wondering a few things. Since I'll be shelling out 8,000+ dollors for this car (this still seems like a lot of money to me, in spite of today's prices), I imagine I will keep it for quite a long time. Given this, I want a car that my whole family and I will be happy with. This means getting a few options that make driving a little bit nicer. The Alliance has a four cylinder 1.4 litre engine. And this is the only engine available as far as I know. I was thinking of getting air conditioning, power brakes, automatic transmission, and cruise control. My question is this. Can an engine that small really handle a load like I've mentiond? I would like to hear from people who know about engines. I would also like to hear from any Renault owners out there. Tell me about your experiances with your cars. Particularly if the car has any of the above mentiond equipment. Thanks in advance, John V. Smith
