[comp.sys.laptops] Help with keys on T1000SE

segre@baal.cs.cornell.edu (Alberto M. Segre) (06/07/90)

I have a Toshiba T1000SE I use predominantly as a remote terminal at
home and for some text editing when I travel. Being new to the PC
world, there are a few things I don't understand. I hope someone out
there can help.

1) I use MSKERMIT version 2.31 to emulate a VT102 terminal when
connecting to assorted UNIX boxes at work. I would like to use the ALT
key on the keyboard as a META key in GNUEmacs, but don't know how to get
the VT102 emulator to act appropriately. Surely someone out there has
done this?

2) In a similar vein, I would very much like to have Ctrl-space not
simply send a space; trying the MSKERMIT SHOW KEY command on Ctrl-space
and space reveals no difference between the two keys. How do I change
this?

I originally suspected this was a problem getting the VT102 terminal
emulator from MSKERMIT to send the proper key sequences, but now I've
noted the same problem differentiating Ctrl-space and space when running
a small public-domain emacs (Freemacs from grape.ecs.clarkson.edu)
locally on the PC. I'm using the standard keyboard driver; would I have
better luck with ANSI.SYS? Any suggestions?
