I would like to know more information about oil filters. Here is
what I have observed:
1. Sears (Fox valley) has a display in their automotive section
with cut-away samples of a K-mart, Fram (I think) and Sears
oil filters. All are a paper filters, differing in the
amount of paper surface area. The display makes you assume
the more paper, the better the filtering.
2. The original filter on my Ford 302 was stuck and I had to
drive a screw driver though it to break it loose. In it was
not a paper filter, but some type of packed fiber.
Here are my questions:
1. Are original equipment filters special for the break in
period?
2. If so, and I change the original oil and filter before the
6,000 miles like my owners manual recommends, do I compromise
filter quality needed for the break in?
3. Are other than paper filters available?
Please post any replies, to share the knowledge with all
interested.
