On the really popular Japanese imports, dealers are typically
charging $1000 above and beyond their markup of about $800 to
$1000. They know they can do this because of the popularity
of these cars.
Yes they do charge an arm and a leg for add-ons. My advice
there would be to find out how much the dealer normally charges
for add-ons. Now compare this to the amount you are about to
pay. Now demand that he remove the extras and their cost from
the dealer's sticker.
Hey...how about trying a buyer's service? If you know what
kind of car your REALLY are lusting for, then I'm told
that this is a good alternative. A buyer's service charges
somewhat less than the typical dealership because they don't
have all the floor plan and showroom floor charges.
Well, at least that's what I've heard.
