I've had my Toshiba 1000 for a while now and am happy with its performance for the most part. I have a few questions maybe some of you can answer: 1. Is there a way to add a hard-drive? I have my doubts, but maybe I could replace the 3.5 with a HD and add an external floppy. 2. Is there a way to speed up the CPU with a faster clock crystal? Is there an upgrade available (286/386)? 3. When playing games (only after programming that demanding Turbo Pascal assignment of course :-), the screen graphics are flipped. The white is black, black is white. Is there a simple way to change this? I know you can change TEXT, but it doesn't affect the graphics screens. This is fixed if you connect to an external composite monitor, but how about the LCD mode? Is this a common problem with all LCD laptops? Linh D. There are no Toshiba-built or third party internal hard drive options for the T1000 that I've heard of, though I've only checked the list of third party vendors provided by Toshiba (which I posted here last week). There is at least one company on that list that provides an external hard disk that plugs into the parallel port. I agree that an internal hard disk would be a much better solution. This sounds like a job for some enterprising hacker. > 2. Is there a way to speed up the CPU with a faster clock crystal? Is there > an upgrade available (286/386)? No CPU upgrades listed either. Again, a job for a hacker. You might be able to increase the clock speed, or replace the 8088 with a V20 or V30 chip. A 286/386 upgrade sounds a little far-fetched. > 3. I don't have a T1000 near me to check, but you might be able to clear the display using the SETUP10 utility or the TOSHUTIL.EXE program that I posted here last week. Also, the CHAD program that Toshiba ships with the T1000 might do the trick. > Is this a common problem with all LCD laptops? Not with my T1000XE, but then again I don't play all that many games on it (aside from Rogue, Nethack and Nyet). I think it's more a problem with the games you are playing. > Linh D.
