Recently, I asked about editors, either emacs or vi clones, for MS/DOS based laptop systems. Here's what I got back from people: * freemacs, a public domain GNU Emacs clone. available from sun.soe.clarkson.edu in pub/freeemacs/* * Epsilon, a commercially available Emacs clone. available from $120 or so at Programmers' Connection * MKS version of vi MKS toolkit highly regarded for giving UNIX-like functions to MS/DOS environment * mg, another PD Emacs clone * stevie, a "pretty decent vi clone" available from gatekeeper.dec.com, in the comp.sources.unix archives * micro-emacs, supporting macros and mouse available lots of places (including in binary form from a co-worker) Given that I had a local copy of micro-emacs, I have it loaded and can at least function to some degree. However, some of the other folks around here only speak vi, so given that I really trust what one of the people who recommended the MKS tools has to say, I'm likely to invest in those. Thanks for the information!!! And if anyone has a "stevie" binary built for MS/DOS laying around where I could FTP it, give me a holler... Regards, -- Stanley P.
