[comp.sys.laptops] Toshiba ROMdisk format

jennings@svax.cs.cornell.edu (Jim Jennings) (07/11/90)

I have a Toshiba 1000 which I've been very happy
with since I bought it more than 18 months ago.
However, the machine comes with ms-dos 2.11 in ROM,
which I used reluctantly because of its speed.

Now I am running ms-dos 3.3 off of a RAMdisk (HardRam),
and am unfortunately in need of more memory. So, I ask
two questions:

1. Does anyone know any way to stuff more memory into
the T1000? (Unlikely, I'll bet.) I have 1.25MB now.

2. I'd like to burn my own ROM to replace the dos 2.11 ROM
in the unit. Has anyone decoded the format of the data on
this chip, or is this info available in some publication?
This would solve my memory problems, as I'd have the things
I really need on the ROM chip instead of my HardRam disk.

(Along the same lines, any idea about whether a larger ROM
can be installed? Obviously, I don't have schematics for this
machine -- a pointer to where I could find those would be
helpful as well!)

Thanks in advance,
