In general we have not found plugs to be gapped properly when we buy them from parts houses etc. The only exception is HONDA , and we have yet to get a plug from them that is not set exactly (but we still check them). Stephen Kogge University of Maryland Department of Computer Science

You can be reasnable certain that when the plugs were made, they were right. You cannot, however be certain that this blissful state of affairs continued through the shipping department, shipping company, stocking crews at the store, or even your own tansport home. In particular, if a plug gets dropped on its electrode, it loses some gap. I've always checked mine, and I've found some small number (~10%, maybe) to be off. By the way, use a spark plug gapper, not a flat feeler gauge, to check. -Joe P.
