For some time, I have been using a Toshiba 1000, which I chose because it was small enough to fit in a briefcase, thus avoiding having to carry an additional package, when travelling. The T1000 does, however, have its limitations, the display being one of the most noticable. My way of working is to keep PROCOMM and WordPerfect 4.2 in the battery backed-up RAM disk. This covers most of my requirements when "on the road". However, in the office I use PROCOMM Plus and WordPerfect 5.0 (soon to be 5.1). The problem is that PC+ and WP5.0 will not fit into the RAM disk. This and the display are the main drivers to find a new machine. The machine that I am currently attracted to is the Toshiba 1200XE. It has the same capability of being carried around in my briefcase, has a much better display, and, though modest by today's standards, the 20MB hard-disk will hold everything that I need and more when away from the office. Further, it is much faster than the T1000 and the LIMS 4.0 memory may find its uses. I am currently attracted to this machine (despite the fact that it is not a 386) and I am looking for any comments from other users, or suggestions for other machines which would do an equivalent job. I am currently using a COMPAQ 286 LTE for this type of work. The one I have has a 20mb hard drive and 1.64 MB of memory. While it does not have the ability to battery backup the RAM disk, I have been very happy with it. I have gotten more that 4 hours worth of heavy use from a single battery, and carry a second battery for longer use. (Have yet to use the second battery.) I read a review of the 1000XE and according to the article the battery life is 2 hours or less, for me that is not long enough. Has3

The Toshiba 1200XE, originally came out with a 2-hour rated battery pack. Recently there was an announcement in PC Week, that a new 3-hour rated battery pack is now available for the 1200XE. This article did not make it clear whether this new battery pack was standard with the new Toshiba 1200XE models. The September issue of PC Computing, in its "What's New" section states that Toshiba 1200XE now comes standard with a longer lasting battery pack. Does anyone have more information regarding this new, longer battery pack?
