[net.auto] Rabbit-Running-Out-of-Gas Problem

heliotis@rochester.UUCP (Jim Heliotis) (09/16/83)

Someone at my auto parts store told me about what happens when a Rabbit (or
similar car) runs out of gas. And, since I recall some questions about that
about a month ago, I thought I'd relate it. According to this guy, the
fuel system is pressurized to about 90 PSI (!), and the fuel pump has NO
BEARINGS -- it moves on a thin film of gasoline. So, ... when you run out
of gas, it's metal against metal, and screech! New fuel pump needed.
