Someone at my auto parts store told me about what happens when a Rabbit (or similar car) runs out of gas. And, since I recall some questions about that about a month ago, I thought I'd relate it. According to this guy, the fuel system is pressurized to about 90 PSI (!), and the fuel pump has NO BEARINGS -- it moves on a thin film of gasoline.
