I just don't understand the big market for super-portable, super-powered machines. Two things I'ld like to hear from netland: 1) Do people really use big computing power in battery powered circumstances? I like to do text entry anywhere I please, but Unix and multi-megabyte spreadsheets in the coffee shop? Do many people really bring these wonder machines places that they don't take their luggage? Remember that word - LUGgage - that goes with suitcases and such. Seems to me that a 286 or 386 should be luggable, not laptop. 2) For those who really do need a laptop 286 w/ 40MB, and can't settle for a luggable: aren't you worried about dropping or loosing (through theft or carelessness ;-) that $3000 machine? I would like to see a slew of 4lb machines w/ good keyboards and screens competing in an under $600 market. I understand that the profit margin is much lower here, but wouldn't this market segment be huge in comparison to the 286/386 notebook market? -- B< Brian Kahn blk@security.mitre.org "may the farce be with you"
