[comp.sys.laptops] T1000 B drive expansion port info

lairdt@mist.cs.orst.edu (Tom Laird) (11/25/90)

Several months ago I purchased a Toshiba 1000 laptop. I am interested in
finding the specifications for the external 5.25" drive expansion port. I need
the pinouts and any documents that show actual useage of the port.

Any mail address you could give where you KNOW I can get this info (and what to
ask for), or E-mail would be appreciated.

Tom,

I posted an entire procedure on building an external drive for the T1000
a few months ago, but my archived copy of it is on a disk five miles
away at the moment. The only thing I can lay hands on at the moment is
the list of pin connections (below). If this isn't enough for you, send
me e-mail as a reminder, and I'll go through my mail archives.

Several people have succesfully built external drives from my procedure
(including myself, of course) -- it cost me about $100, but I didn't
hunt for bargain components, just bought a traded-in 5-1/4 drive from a
local computer store, and a Tandy Color Computer disk drive enclosure
and power supply surplus.

The pinout listing that follows was orginally downloaded from the
Toshiba Laptop BBS at (714) 837-4408 (2400 N81). I developed the
procedure from this.

I've posted the complete procedure to this newsgroup at least twice, so
it may be archived somewhere (I have no idea where, though). Maybe I
should write a script to post it once a month for new readers of this
group... . ;^)

Hope this helps you.
