I saw a T1000-LE in the store today. Very impressive! Highlights (comp- arisons are with T1000XE): - sidelit LCD display, much nicer than backlit displays found on T1000SE/XE. I hear that it is nicer in reflective mode also. With the sidelight on, it is simply the best LCD I've seen, almost as good as a CRT or plasma panel. - memory expandable to 9MB instead of 3MB. 8MB expansion card lists for $3999 (that's three 9's)!!! 3rd party suppliers should mitigate this soon... - 3 hrs/charge from 2200maH main battery. Optional secondary 1700maH 2 hr battery fits in modem slot. Front panel LED says which is in use at the moment. With secondary battery, I guess you can't have an internal modem. - List price $2499, educational discount $1799. Since you can now get T1200XE's for <$2k, this gives you a weight-for-speed dilemma. - None of T1000SE/XE/LE are as rugged as the old T1000, but they seem well built enough, and are certainly more powerful. It sure looks like a more sensible buy than a T1000XE, but I'm personally waiting for a T1000SL (386sl, 80MB disk, etc.?) to come along. That will be impossible for me to resist.
