Regarding the person who couldn't insert/turn/remove the ignition key when the steering wheel locks-- Our 1970 Toyota has the same problem, although not as bad. All I have to do is turn the wheel a little bit, and generally the key will turn. This happens to me at random intervals, not just after having driven for a while. The car has done this ever since we bought it ~5 months ago. The ignition switch in our 1970 Ford Maverick would be difficult to turn when the wheel was *hard* against the ignition lock stop. Once the key was turned, the wheel popped away from the stops, and the key would turn freely. I've chalked the problem up to a [sometimes] cranky old car. However, the Toyota seems to need its points adjusted every month[longest interval]. I have never seen this in any car before. The point gap will close down until just about nil. The car runs fine, but every few weeks it will start running roughly, back-firing,hard starting, etc. After ~10 minutes of this, the car dies and will not start for love or money. About 15 minutes with a dwell gauge(sp?) and tools will get us going again, but it is a hassle we'd rather avoid especially at night. Any advice? Also, we are thinking of taking the car to Minnesota[from San Francisco Bay area] in December/January. Can anyone tell me if we must put lighter-weight oil in the manual transmission and rear-end? There is currently 90-weight in them now. Please respond by mail. Paranoidally Yours, Kchula-Rrit I was given this mail address: !menlo70!nsc!nessus
