[comp.sys.laptops] New Info on AIRIS VH-286 Notebook

glenn@harper.UUCP (Glenn Therkelsen) (01/04/91)

THIS IS BEING POSTED FOR GREG KULOSA, PLEASE RESPOND TO HIM: uunet!harper!kulosa

Hello, everyone!! I ordered the AIRIS VH-286 way back in September or
October, and since then it seems like I have had the most up-to-date info
on them and on this great notebook. They send me letters letting me know
about updates to the features and when it will be available. Well, last week
I received another letter with some exciting info, so I called them and the
guy that I talked to gave me permission to post that letter here. So, here
goes: (This is a direct quote from the letter)

Dear Mr. Kulosa:

Thank you for your continued patience with the development of our
VH-286. I'd like to update you on our current delivery schedule
of this very innovative notebook computer.

In my most recent correspondence, I told you that, based on the
best information available to us, we anticipated delivering our
entire backorder by the end of the year. With deep regret, we
must now report an adjustment in the schedule. Pending final FCC
screening, we will begin delivering units in early February.

We are happy to report that the VH-286 easily met FCC class B
requirements on it's initial screening. Given typical FCC lead
times, we expect to complete the final screening and receive the
approval labels necessary for shipping in early February.

In addition, in keeping with our commitment to continually add
value to our products, the VH-286 modem now includes a "sendfax"
capability as *standard*, yet the price remains just _$1899.00_.

We sincerely apologize for all the delays. We would like to
emphasize, however, that Airis is a designer and not a relabeler
of relatively generic clones. As such, most of our delays have
resulted from obstacles we encountered in developing an
innovative product, and from our absolute commitment to providing
the best 286-based notebook computer in the world, period.

We thank you again for your patience, support and confidence in
us. Please call if you have any questions.

Best wishes for the _happiest_ of holidays.

Gratefully,

Jeffrey A. Maziarek
Executive Vice President, Marketing
