I don't think that the Cobra RD-4000 has nearly as effective polluting detector rejection as the Escort. From the May 1983 issue of Car&Driver, which has always had very comprehensive radar detector tests, tested the new Escort with its STOP circuitry and the RD-4000. The Cobra picked up the Radio Shack radar detector at a range of 1649 feet while the Escort didn't false alarm at all. The little LED that lights up tells one that a signal is being received with the sensitivity switch in the City position. The City setting raises the threshold where the main visual and audible alarms come on and the LED indicates when the signal is initially received. The different alarms for X&K bands I have found very useful. When I'm not speeding excessively I don't take a X band signal as seriously as a K band. K band is attenuated through the air much more than X band and therefore one has less reaction time than with X band.
