[comp.sys.laptops] cheap and basic laptop?

dve@mace.cc.purdue.edu (01/16/91)

Lets come to the most basics. I'm in need of a light weight
laptop that has at least one floppy or can easily transfer files to and
from with my desktop such as via a serial port. Price is the biggest
concern. Display quality doesn't matter. Internal battery nice but
	not must.

I think most people here use laptops so someone should be able to
instruct as to where to look for such a machines.

	Many Thanks
	Joe

You might want to look at the Toshiba T1000 (original model), still
available for around $600, or the newer T1000SE for around $900.
Also, the Panasonic CF-150B.

i use a Toshiba 1000SE around campus. it's the lightest thing that I
could find and could afford. It's around 5.x pounds, XT with 1.44mb
floppy, CGA and 1meg of memory. It has a nice feature of hard ram which
can act like a mini hard drive, comes in handy when I'm not running
DesqView and using the 1meg RAM. i believe it costs $1200, but I can check
on that.
