[comp.sys.laptops] Choices, choices !

hardarso@io.cs.unc.edu (Kari Hardarson) (01/31/91)

I had my heart set on the T100LE until I saw the february BYTE review on
several laptops. The Zeos286 looked so good for 1995$ with VGA graphics
instead of CGA so I called these people. They could ship one over in a
jiffy but did I know about the 386 laptop they just came out with, just 300$
more? Since there is a 30-day period in which you can return it, I said "I'll
take the 386 laptop". This was yesterday afternooon.
After I got into bed last night I couldn't sleep: "Oh my
gawd, what am I doing with my money?" - figure that with Windows coming on
strong these days I'd better not invest in a machine that won't run tomorrow's
software properly. If you want word processing, buy the cheapest thing around
that has a good display and keyboard, but make the commitment if you want
to use it for anything more than that.
I meant to buy the laptop as a supplement to a desktop, but now I'm planning to
get rid of the old clunker and work solely on the 386 of course. 2295$ is a
lot of money but I figure I can get rid of the desktop for ~1000$ if I'm lucky
so I can subtract that from the price. I also feel good about leaving the world
of 286 chips once and for all. I'm going to be re-evaluating this in my head
until UPS delivers, I guess.
