I have a Data General/1 laptop that used to have 640K of memory. After a year of disuse, it now has 464K. I have swapped the memory cards around (it uses 3 of 128K each as expansion - they're sort of prehistoric SIMMs), cleaned sockets, etc. The fault, if there is a hardware problem, must be in the addressing because it does not move with the memory. How does this machine know how much memory it has? Does it just look at startup? The batteries had completely died over the year - could there be scrambled status somewhere? Is there some other group that might know more about this? Thanks. Any help is appreciated.
