[comp.sys.laptops] LAPLINK

I am looking for a pd or shareware equivalent to laplink. Is there anything
available by anon ftp out there??

I've been using ``The $25 Network'' available from

	Information Modes
	P.O. Drawer F.
	Denton, TX 76202
	817-387-3339

for $25.

It is a reasonably "full featured" LAN which uses standard serial
ports at about 115kbaud. This is slower than the Ethernet I have at
work, but lots faster than Kermit. I've used it for about six months
on two different laptops with DOS 3.2 and DOS 4.0 and been very happy.

Yeah, SIMTEL has EASY-NET, but it's not too hot. It allows you to define
the com ports, the virtual drives and printers. I couldn't get the
printer to work, and it would hang everytime I tried it.

EASY-NET itself is a bit flaky - it's fragile, and slow. You need to set
the link speed to 38K (null modem cable's speed) to get an acceptable
transfer speed. But it's flexible. It really is amazing to do a 'DIR J:'
and see your other machine's A: drive whirr and provide you a listing :)

Oh, something is wrong in the docs too, you need to start the network
like: NETSTART fn.ft /R instead of NETSTART /R as the manual says.
The fn.ft is the name of the config file..

Basically, I like it, but can't use it. :( -turgut
