I've seen mention of a program called Stacker that is supposed to compress and uncompress files on a real time basis with the effect of virtually doubling the size of one's hard drive. Since laptops tend to be limited in space and expandability, this seems like a wonderful utility. Has anyone had any actual experience with this? I wonder how much it slows I/O calls. How much compression can one really expect? Are there any caveats? I would think that if this program is as good as advertised it would be of interest to many on the net and so public responses may be appropriate, however, I will gladly summarize personal responses if significant.
