[comp.sys.laptops] Toshiba T1000LE Battery

chao@oahu.cs.ucla.edu (Chia-Chi Chao) (03/09/91)

When I use my NEC Multispeed laptop at home, I take the battery out and use
the AC adaptor to reduce the number of charge/discharge cycles.

A friend of mine just got a T1000LE yesterday, and I would like to know if
there's any problem with disconnecting the battery, if the auto resume feature
is not used? From what I have heard, the battery life is only a little more
than an hour, and even if not used, the battery would be drained in a few
days. If the battery has to be charged/discharged so often, I don't think
it will last too long. Right?

Thanks for any feedback.

Well, I have the T1000SE, which is a lot like the LE. First of all, the LE
is supposed to have a 3 hour battery life, which can be expanded to 5 hours
if you buy the optional modem slot battery. Also, I believe you can not use
the computer if the battery is not connected (I know the SE will not let you
do this). There is no problem with taking the battery pack out when storing,
as this will eliminate the battery drain which occurs when the computer is off.
With my computer's battery in and fully charged, the battery will completely
drain with the computer off in 7 days, but it won't drain if I disconect it
(of course you will lose the autoresume stuff). Perhaps Toshiba has made the
LE capable of running with only the ac adaptor and not the battery, but I
have not heard anything that says it can. Hope this helps.
