Hello. I just recently got an IQL laptop (Ms-dos, 640k 1 5-1/4" & 1 3-1/2" drives.) The only documentation I got with is was a Dos manual (for 3.2) Now, as I really don't have a main system, I'd like to put a hardrive on this thing, for use when it's on a desktop. There is a connector on the back of the thing that reads "expansion port" which I am told is a real honest-to-goodness tap into the systems bus. This means, I assume, that I could in theory wire something up that connects to this thing and some standard IBM cards (like a hard drive controller.) Does anyone have the pinouts of this port? Since there are >60 or so pins on what ever connects to this thing, I'd probably have to get a hardcopy of it somehow... If I can get this, I could wire up a sort of expansion box to hold a Hard drive, powersupply, etc. that I could plug in when I use it at my desk, then unplug it when I want to go off someplace with the computer. Ok, failing that, there are a number of ways I could get some not-so-working PC's and rig them up with a hard drive. (they have problems with floppies, but hard drives are just fine by them...) Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew of a good parallel network system that was real cheap (or free?) I've seen several serial line networks, and their throughput was underwhelming. I'm not looking for a laplink type program (a simple file transfer) but an actual networked harddrive scheme. I was thinking I could "slave" this fairly broken PC and use it as a sort of file server.
