i've just scanned the last thousand or so messages here. i've also
watched byte and pc mag (or whatever it's called). i have not yet
seen a review of the packard bell 286 notebook. i find this quite
odd, since it seems to win big over most of what's out there. here's
the deal:
- cheap -- i paid $1665 at our local best buy
- weighs about 6 lbs
- 286, backlit vga
- external ports: vga monitor, keyboard (i'm using both of these even
as we speak), mouse, parallel, serial (well, i guess i'm using this,
too), bus
- expandable to 8mb (!) -- i just installed my 4mb upgrade to give me
a total of 5!
- 8.5x11x2 -- true notebook
- batteries are replacable by radio shack heavy duty nicad d cells --
this works great!
- 20mb hd expandable to 40mb, 1 - 1.44 floppy drive
- battery life about 3+ hours (less with the radio shack -- they're
4.0 amp-hours as opposed to the 5 amp-hours of the original)
i'm probably forgeting features, here, but doesn't this strike YOU as
a featurefull system? i'm interested in other's opinions.
