#N:trsvax:55200018:000:693 trsvax!harvey Oct 11 09:38:00 1983 I need some advice about a starting problem that I'm having with a 1980 Olds Delta 88. Whenever the outside temperature is moderate (60 - 70) and the engine has been running long enough to reach normal temperature, if I turn the engine off and try to restart it 5 - 10 minutes later, the starter can just barely turn the engine over. If I turn the ignition off at this point and try to start the car again, the engine usually turns right over. This symptom of the sluggish start does not happen all the time; the engine usually turns over immediately. There is no problem starting the car in the morning. The battery checks out fine. Any ideas? Harvey Lefer ctvax!trsvax!harvey

#R:trsvax:55200018:uok:500002:000:426 uok!dswankii Oct 26 16:10:00 1983 GM has had a history of hard hot starts beginning with some Chevy trucks. The problem was the heat from the exhaust system was hot-soaking the starter causing inumerable problems. You might try building a heat shield for the starter out of sheet steel,or, see if any GM dealer has a shield cheap(!) that you could convert. Also check Olds service flyers for info on this problem.
