[comp.sys.laptops] Mircosoft Word

lomow@jade.uucp (Greg Lomow) (06/05/91)

Salu,

I use both a Mac SE/30 running Multifinder 6.0.4 and an Everex
Tempo LX running MS-DOS. I use Microsoft Word on the Mac. I am
going to get Microsoft Word for my DOS laptop. Will it be easy
(trival) to move files back and forth?

Here is what I hope for. Write document on Mac. Save As to MS-DOS
format. Copy file to diskette using Apple File Exchange utility.
Move floopy to laptop. Start Word and read in the file. All
formating and layout is retained going in both directions.

Sounds great in theory but is it going to work? I know I can move
diskettes back and forth using Apple File Exchange.

Is there anything I need to know about compatible versions of Mac
Word, MS-DOS Word, the Mac Finder, MS-DOS, or Apple File Exchange
to make all of this work?

Thanks
Greg

Yes, I know it is going to work, but be sure to save all in MS-DOS format, instead of normal format

Another possibility is to use MacLink. It allows you to transfer files
directly between a Mac and PC by means of a serial cable (similar to Lap
Link). It also includes a set of Apple File Exchange translators that
will probably do the Mac-Word to DOS-Word translation in the process.
I've seen the package listed in mail-order catalogs for about $130
(including cables). The translators are another $100 or so (the
translators can be used with Apple File Exchange alone as well).
