A friend of mine is going to Japan and Hong Kong for a vacation. He would like to know how the prices on 286 and 386{sx|dx} laptops compare to those in the US or Canada. Can he expect to save any money by purchasing a laptop in Hong Kong or Japan? I can't tell you about prices in Japan. Hong Kong a year ago my brother shopped around alot to find Toshiba the cheapest prices on 286's & 386's (I don't remember the model names/numbers but one was T3100, I think) were $50 to $100 MORE than the same models were selling here in Berkeley, California. -- INTERNET: hullp@cogsci.berkeley.edu BITNET: hullp@cogsci.berkeley.bitnet UUCP: ucbvax!cogsci!hullp OR: ucbvax!cogsci.berkeley.edu!hullp

The last time I looked, compared to the US, list prices were lower and street prices higher in Japan. Plus there is the question of warranty. If you're going to use it in the US or Canada, it's probably best to buy it here. -- Keiji Kanazawa kgk@cs.brown.edu
