I have recently acquired an old(ish) SANYO 16LT2 laptop. I paid a ridiculously low price, so I couldn't really complain, but the screen is not perfect. Just a short summary of the machine: - 640K, 2*720K - nonbacklit CGA - 8MHz - battery (300 mA drain from 1800 mAh, calculate battery life yrself!) Now for the problem: The screen has developed "dead" lines, in the following positions - [1] one horizontal dead line (out of CGA's 200) three-quarter down the screen, plus another one more down [2] as above, but additionally one more dead line separated with one good line from the second line above [3] as [2], but additionally one more horizontal line close to the middle of the screen, plus one VERTICAL dead line slightly to the right from the centre. As at most five lines are dead, the use of the computer for text applications is not entirely out of the question, but of course it is terribly annoying. The screen may be completely detached, but the problem is not with the connection between the computer and the screen - this is a simple, parallel connector (with roughly 10 pins), apparently using heavy multiplexing. So the problem must be with the LCD display itself. From the symptoms I gather there is nothing entirely broken, rather the sort of dubious connection (either between the board and LCD glass, or cut connectors on the driver PCB). The LCD panel may be very similar to the one used in a Tosh T1000 (I am not sure). What is the net's knowledge of this type of problem? I am pretty skilled (Ph.D. in the works), so is there anything I can do myself? Do they still stock the display modules for this computer? If so, where and for how much? Is there anyone out there with a broken LT16, who would be eager to part with its display? I would be really awfully happy to get any feedback (just one remark - as I bought the computer for peanuts, I wouldn't want to part with a SIGNIFICANT amount of money!) Kris.
