[comp.sys.laptops] Zeos mouse port

jameson@jade.uucp (Kevin Jameson) (06/04/91)

Is it possible to run a mouse and a serial port connection at the
same time on a Zeos 386 (Everex TempoLX-like) machine?

Nope -- only one serial port, no mouse port. Perhaps you could do
something clever with the modem.

Greetings:

I'm in the market for a laptop/notebook computer
for word processing. I have a few questions for
owners/users:

1) Is 286 power enough for worperfect (w/o windows)
when the files get to be around 100 - 150 pages.
(E.G. is the power enough to page thru the text,
and spell check large files quickly enough.)
   - Opinions? Experiences?

If 286 is too slow, I am willing to purchase a 386/SX.

2) Screens:
   A)Non-Gas Plasma:
I've looked at a lot of the VGA 16/32 grey scale
screens, and basically I was not that impressed
for clearity of the text characters. The screens
still have that "half there/half not" look dependent
on one's angle to the screen.

     - Opinions? Experiences? Please inform - There's alot
of different mail order laptops that I have never
       seen, like Tandon's, Hyundai's, Dell's, etc.

     - I liked the clearity of a Toshiba side-lit screen
I saw on a 1200. It was CGA, but the text was almost
paper perfect - very good background to character contrast.
Any opinions on side-lit vs Back-lit?

   B)Gas Plasma
I was impressed w/ the text clearity for Gas Plasma
on the IBM PS/2 luggable and the Toshiba 3100s.

     - What's the deal w/ Gas Plasma, do they drain power
faster, have less shorter life spans? Usually cost
more (which they seem to do).

3) Price
   Price is always relevant:
      I was budgeting up to $1500 for a 286,
and around $2250 for a 386SX. Of course the
size of the drive will effect the price. (It has
      to have a hard drive.)

Whatever, I guess I'm just looking for personal recommendations
on Laptops/Notebooks for word processing. My #1 criteria is
a screen I WANT to look at - as opposed to just tolerating.

(Yes, I want a computer - not just a typewriter - I will want
to run other programs and be able to fax/modem from the
 critter.)

Thanks for whatever info you have.

NOTE:
Has anyone out there ever bought a Broadax laptop (BSI)
from El Monte, CA? What do you think of it?
